Core holding and reduction instruments
Bone holding forceps and clamps are used to reduce and stabilize fracture fragments during fixation. Set composition typically includes a range of sizes and jaw types — pointed reduction forceps, self-centering clamps, and speed-lock or ratcheted holding forceps — chosen based on the anatomical region the set is built for.
Drilling and driving instruments
Hand drills, drill chucks, extension bows, and depth gauges make up the drilling side of a trauma set, used for pilot holes and screw placement ahead of fixation. Where a set is built around a specific plate or screw system, drill bit and gauge sizing needs to match that system's screw diameters exactly.
Cutting and shaping instruments

Retraction and exposure
Retractors sized for the relevant anatomical exposure — and, for some trauma sets, bone levers — keep the surgical field open and protect surrounding tissue during reduction and fixation. Retractor selection is one of the more procedure-specific parts of a set, so it is worth confirming against the surgeon's preferred technique rather than defaulting to a generic list.

Before finalizing a trauma set order, it is worth confirming: which specific procedures the set is intended for, whether it needs to match an existing plate/screw system, tray material and layout, and whether you need the set validated against a reference list your surgical team already uses. A manufacturer building trauma sets regularly should be comfortable working through this list with you at quotation stage.
